Reported age limit for Nvidia settings
A reported Nvidia restriction would prevent users under 18 from changing drivers through its native app, leaving them unable to adjust graphics card settings. The account comes from a Reddit post that attributes the change to the UK’s recently implemented Online Safety Act.
The restriction’s scope remains unclear. Some replies suggest it concerns Nvidia GeForce Now, not the Nvidia app or control panel, but that interpretation has not been confirmed.
Other commenters argued that the measure would undermine online anonymity rather than protect children. Restricting access to routine, harmless graphics settings raises a different concern from limiting access to game content.
A broader dispute over gaming censorship
The report arrives amid wider criticism of censorship in gaming. Visa and Mastercard have faced backlash over their decision to ban Japanese adult games from Steam, while companies including Capcom have censored titles despite opposition from some creators.
Onimusha 2 and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows have also drawn criticism for what the source describes as excessive censorship. The source further attributes a 27% decline in Square Enix’s stock-market value to unnecessary censorship.
Not all creators support these restrictions. Nier’s Yoko Taro and developers behind Lollipop Chainsaw have spoken against censorship, and new entries in the latter franchise are described as entirely uncensored. Their opposition highlights the continuing disagreement over how tightly the industry should control what games can depict.
